Mississauga United FC is excited to announce that registration is now open for our Fall and Winter 2026–27 soccer programs in Mississauga.
We understand that choosing the right soccer program can sometimes be confusing—especially for parents whose children are new to organized soccer. What is the difference between a recreational program and a competitive team? Does your child need a tryout? Which program is appropriate for their age?
Mississauga United offers programs for beginners, recreational players and experienced competitive players from ages 4 to 14. This guide introduces our recreational programs, Competitive Rep Teams, Development Teams and Target Teams so families can more easily identify the right opportunity for their children.
Families who register for eligible programs by August 15, 2026, can also receive our Early Engagement Savings, including a 10% saving on eligible recreational programs.
Two Main Soccer Pathways for Families
Mississauga United’s Fall and Winter programs are divided into two main categories:
- Recreational programs: Families can register their children directly without attending a tryout.
- Competitive teams: Players must complete a free assessment or tryout and receive an invitation from the club’s Technical Department.
Recreational programs are generally the best starting point for beginners and children who want to learn, play and enjoy soccer in a welcoming environment. Competitive teams are intended for players who are ready for more frequent training, league games and a higher level of commitment.
Recreational Soccer Programs: Direct Registration
Mississauga United’s recreational programs are open to players with different levels of experience. No formal tryout is normally required, and families can register directly while spaces remain available.
Training includes age-appropriate activities, skill development and small-sided games. Players learn ball control, dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, movement, teamwork and basic game awareness.
Future Stars: Ages 4–5
The Future Stars Program introduces young children to soccer in an active, encouraging and age-appropriate environment.
Sessions help players become comfortable with the ball while developing coordination, balance, movement and confidence. Activities are designed to keep young children engaged and give them a positive first experience with organized soccer.
Future Stars is suitable for children who are completely new to soccer as well as young players who have already participated in an introductory program. Families may select a once-weekly or twice-weekly option, depending on availability and their preferred level of participation.
Development Academy: Ages 6–9
The Development Academy for ages 6–9 is designed for beginners and recreational players who are ready to develop stronger soccer fundamentals.
Players work on dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting and making simple decisions during games. Sessions combine technical activities with small-sided play so children can practise their skills in realistic and enjoyable situations.
Families may choose once-weekly or twice-weekly participation. This makes the program suitable both for children seeking a regular recreational activity and for players who want additional practice.
Development Academy: Ages 10–14
The Development Academy for ages 10–14 gives older beginners and recreational players an opportunity to learn and improve without needing previous competitive-team experience.
It is never too late to begin playing soccer. This program helps older children develop confidence, physical activity habits, individual skills and an understanding of how to play as part of a team.
Players receive structured coaching and meaningful opportunities to practise in game situations. Once-weekly and twice-weekly options are available, subject to the current program schedule.
Super Girls Discovery: Ages 4–6
The Super Girls Discovery Program gives young girls an encouraging introduction to soccer.
Through playful activities and simple games, participants develop coordination, confidence and basic ball skills. The supportive girls-focused environment can be especially helpful for children who may feel more comfortable beginning the sport alongside other young female players.
The program is offered once weekly.
Super Girls Foundation: Ages 7–9
The Super Girls Foundation Program is designed for girls who want to build their soccer skills, confidence and teamwork in a welcoming environment.
Players develop their dribbling, passing, receiving and shooting while learning how to communicate and participate in small-sided games. The program supports girls who are new to soccer as well as those returning with some recreational experience.
The program is offered once weekly.
Competitive Rep Teams: U8–U14
Mississauga United’s Competitive Rep Teams are intended for players who are ready for a more structured and demanding soccer environment.
Unlike recreational programs, players cannot register directly for a competitive team without first being assessed. Interested families should complete the club’s free tryout request. The Technical Department will assess the player and provide an invitation and registration instructions if an appropriate team position is available.
Current competitive opportunities include teams from U8 through U14, based on the player’s birth year.
U8 and U9 teams generally participate in two weekly training sessions plus a weekend league game. From U10 to U14, teams generally have three weekly training sessions plus a weekend league game.
Competitive players are expected to attend regularly, respond positively to coaching and contribute to the team. Training covers technical skills, tactical understanding, decision-making, positional responsibilities and teamwork. Competitive participation may also include league travel, tournaments, uniforms and other team commitments.
Development Teams and Target Teams
Beginning at U11, Mississauga United may organize Development Teams and Target Teams to provide different levels of competitive challenge within the club’s player-development pathway.
Both are competitive, assessment-based teams—not direct-registration recreational programs. Experienced competitive families may already be familiar with this team structure. New families only need to understand one important distinction:
The Development Academy is a recreational program that families can register for directly. A Development Team is an assessment-based team within the competitive pathway.
Player placement is determined by the Technical Department based on current ability, development needs, attitude, potential and readiness for the team environment.
Which Soccer Program Should You Choose?
For most new families, the choice is straightforward.
Choose a recreational program if your child:
- Is new to soccer or has limited organized experience
- Wants to learn skills and enjoy regular physical activity
- Prefers a once-weekly or twice-weekly schedule
- Is not currently seeking league competition
- Wants to develop confidence before considering a competitive team
Request a competitive assessment if your child:
- Has previous soccer or team experience
- Is interested in organized league competition
- Wants more frequent and challenging training
- Can commit consistently to practices and games
- Is ready for assessment by the club’s technical staff
If you are uncertain, beginning in the age-appropriate recreational program is a positive choice. Coaches can observe the player’s progress and help families understand future development opportunities.
Fall and Winter Soccer Development
The full Fall and Winter season runs from October 5, 2026, to April 16, 2027. Fall-only and Winter-only registration options may also be available for selected recreational programs.
Indoor soccer allows children to remain active and continue developing throughout the colder months. Playing in smaller spaces encourages frequent contact with the ball, quicker decisions and greater involvement in each activity.
Consistent training can help players build confidence and maintain their progress in preparation for the next outdoor season.
Community Partnership with Inter Toronto
Mississauga United FC is proud to be a community partner of Inter Toronto FC, a professional soccer club competing in the Canadian Premier League.
The partnership creates opportunities for professional collaboration, coaching mentorship, development clinics, player identification, community events and special matchday experiences.
It also gives young players a closer connection to professional Canadian soccer. They can see where dedication, teamwork and continued development may lead while remaining focused on enjoying the game and improving at their current level.
The partnership is not only about advanced-player opportunities. It is also about bringing Mississauga families together, strengthening the local soccer community and giving children inspiring experiences connected to the professional game.
