Parent Code of Conduct

Mississauga United FC

As a parent, your primary responsibility is to create a positive, healthy environment that encourages your child to enjoy playing soccer and to grow through the experience. Coaching and technical decisions are the responsibility of your child’s coach — any concerns should be addressed directly with them.

Parents are expected to ensure they and their child are aware of up-to-date practice times and locations. These are shared primarily by email and may also be posted on the website. If clarification is needed, please speak directly with the coach.

Family members are always welcome to attend games or open training sessions. If you wish to speak with a coach, please do so before or after training, not during.

Do’s and Don’ts for Parents

  1. Don’t impose your ambitions.
Soccer is your child’s activity — not yours. Every child progresses at their own pace. Focus on supporting their personal best rather than comparing them to others.
  2. Be supportive—always.
Win or lose, always ask: “Did you have fun?” If your child isn’t enjoying themselves, they shouldn’t be pressured to continue.
  3. Don’t coach from the sidelines.
You’ve trusted a professional coach. Let them do their job. Offering technical advice yourself can confuse your child and disrupt the coach-player relationship. Your role is to support and encourage.
  4. Stay positive during games.
Cheer, applaud, and encourage — but never criticize your child, their teammates, or the coach.
  5. Acknowledge your child’s nerves.
It’s normal for children to feel nervous before competitions. Encourage and reassure them. If they weren’t ready, the coach wouldn’t have entered them into the game.
  6. Respect the officials.
Mistakes happen. Referees are doing their best — show them the same respect you’d want for your child.
  7. Support your child’s coach.
The relationship between coach and player is vital for success and enjoyment. Avoid criticizing the coach in front of your child — it only creates confusion and damages trust.
